Abstract

Non-Verbal Language in Acting. A Case Study: Dorra from “The Woman as a Battlefield” by Matei Vișniec
The research I have undertaken in this paper on non-verbal language in acting is based on a case study of one of the first roles in my career, an exercise that has influenced – decisively, I would say – the way I approach the characters entrusted to me. The presentation of the subject and the description of the main lines of development of the two female characters and, further on, the detailing of the character Dorra's journey highlights the fact that, both in construction and perception, the physical sensation is closely related to the exceptional psychic situation of the character. These theoretical aspects underlie the process of character construction.
Thus, the encounter between Dorra, a victim of rape by combatants, and the psychologist Kate, who studies the phenomenon of war rape, is the premise from which the whole creative process starts.
