About the Journal
Theatrical Research is a biannual academic journal created in 2020 and edited by the Theatrical and Multimedia Research Institute of the University of Arts Târgu Mureș. Born out of the need to promote the history of Romanian, Hungarian and German theatre in Transylvania in a European and universal context, Theatrical Research publishes original texts structured in several sections: conferences, studies and research in the field of theatre and performing arts; reviews and chronicles; and "Restitutio", devoted to lesser-known authors and theatrical works.
All the papers are peer-reviewed and benefit from English language abstracts and keywords.
The journal's issues are available in print and online, representing valuable tools for all those interested in the memory of the Transylvanian theatre and, by extension, the whole world.

Theatrical Research Journal is available to readers online without financial, legal or technical restrictions, based on the manuscript content integrity maintenance principle. Unless otherwise noted, the journal's content uses a Creative Commons 4.0 CC BY license for the manuscript usage rights, which permits any use, reproduction, distribution, print, and citation of the work as long as the authors are credited. The complete bibliographical data of Symbolon Journal must also be indicated. If possible, please also place a link leading to the original publication.

Scope and thematic profile
Theatrical Research publishes peer-reviewed studies, articles, and reviews that deal with various aspects, especially in theatre history and performing arts, encouraging inter- and multi-disciplinary research. The journal's mission is to provide a specialized forum for theatre researchers, historians and practitioners, focusing mainly on the history of Transylvanian theatre in a European and universal context, thus contributing to developing and advancing knowledge in the targeted field.
The thematic profile is covered by the publication of studies and articles that explore theatre's evolution, influences and contributions in the Transylvanian region and at the European level. It also aims to publish reviews, interviews with artists and directors, and articles supporting theatre education for students and the general public. In this way, it seeks to promote a dialogue between theatre and other relevant academic or cultural fields, facilitating a better understanding of mutual influences and interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as the analysis of contemporary trends in theatre, such as digital theatre, community theatre, adaptations modern versions of the classics or new artistic explorations.
Objectives
Our journal’s main objectives are:
- To publish original, rigorous and innovative research in the field of theatre, providing an academic platform for leading specialists and researchers.
- To support a diverse and inclusive perspective, especially on the history of the theatre, to understand its evolution, and to highlight the connections between the past and new trends, thus offering a holistic view of the development of the theatre.
- To create an opening for debate and dialogue between researchers, practitioners and the theatre community, promoting the exchange of ideas and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- To provide educational resources and relevant materials to support the learning and professional development of students, teachers and theatre professionals.
- To contribute to the understanding and promote theatre's cultural importance in society, highlighting its role in transmitting values, expressing cultural identity and challenging critical thinking.
- To facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between theatre communities from different regions, cultures and social contexts, to encourage inter- and multicultural diversity and dialogue.
