Abstract

How to recover Women’s Voices from Theatre History: Toward a Feminist Methodology
By retracing the stages of conception and development of the multi-year project "The Feminist Theatre Archive. FEM100", this article outlines the key principles of a feminist research methodology tailored to the subject of investigation. Drawing on the work of archive theorists (Giannachi, 2016; Hartmann, 2020, 2021) as well as scholars of theatre and feminism (Dolan, 2012; Farfan & Ferris, 2013), the author examines issues related to the archiving of artistic practices and the rewriting of theatre history through the recontextualization of contributions made by women artists who have been forgotten or undervalued within the current Romanian theatrical canon. The article also builds on the author’s personal experience and on that of the research team she coordinated during the FEM100 project (2024–2025).
