Abstract

The Theatrical Antecedents of the Transylvanian Dance Theater
Dance theater can be considered as the result of the development of modern and postmodern dance in the eighties. The terms “dance theater”, “movement theater” or “physical theater” have a common characteristic, as dance rediscovered itself through theater. During the socialist regime, modern dance initiatives completely disappeared from Transylvania. This explains why the genre has developed later, only after the nineties, and it did so more through the perspective of theater than that of dance. In this study, I am researching the theatrical antecedents that are decisive in the appearance of the Transylvanian dance theater tendency. The subject of my analysis is the initial work of the Figura Studio Theater (Gheorgheni), mainly the performance King Ubu (1987), and as another important antecedent, the production Blood Wedding (1999), played by the Tamási Áron Theater (Sfântu Gheorghe).
