Abstract

It Was Harag’s Testament
Gábor Tompa considers György Harag his master. In his reminiscence he stresses that the changes in Harag’s carrier were influenced by the retheatricalization tendencies of the Romanian theater at the time, and were manifested in close collaboration with scenographers. During his years of study, Tompa participated in several Harag rehearsals, and he got acquainted with his method of work as well as his directorial practices. He evokes the production of The Cherry Orchard, its personal, autobiographical aspects. Due to Harag’s final illness, he had finished the staging of the play, and sees in the performance the relation of the great master to death and his will to live.
