Theatre as a Synergistic tool Between Therapy and Education
Theatre has been an enduring art form throughout history, serving as a vehicle for communicating ideas, emotions and realities. From ancient Greek tragedies to modern contemporary plays, theatre has established itself as a powerful medium not only for entertainment but also for education and reflection on human life. Its transformative potential extends beyond mere performance, offering a range of benefits to both actors and spectators, underscoring its crucial role in education.
Theatre and performance can provide a valuable form of self-expression and empowerment for students/people living with disabilities.
From plays to dance performances, these artistic games offer numerous benefits for people who might otherwise face barriers to traditional forms of communication and expression. For students, play is a way to express their own abilities. They exercise their full capacity for physical adaptation, practical skills, develop their possibilities for appreciation, assimilation and creation. Play teaches them patience and discipline, respecting the rules.
Theatrical games are an interactive and attractive learning method through which the educational process can be transformed into a pleasant and practical experience.
The combination of art and therapy has its roots in Freud's and Jung's theories about the subconscious and unconscious. Art therapy is based on the premise that visual symbols and images are easily accessible elements and constitute a natural form of communication of human experience.
Anyone can make art, and there are so many different art forms that help students with special needs gain independence, confidence, and self-esteem. Art is incredibly beneficial for all students, no matter what. Art promotes freedom of creative expression, which helps students relax and think differently.
