Before being a book, The Poetry of the Dream. An Actor's Art was research; before research, it was a lived experience in and through the body — in rehearsals, in doubt, in discovery, and in the silence from which, sometimes, meaning is born. This book is not a mere analytical breakdown of a performance, but rather an exploration of a complex artistic creation that captures how Miriam Răducanu sees the relationship between verbal and body language. It would have been impossible to reveal the process and the method she proposes without an in-depth analysis of The Poetry of the Dream, her last show, developed over a decade of work; nor would it have been possible to fully emphasise that, for actors, physical movement is never mere motor function, but one that gives birth to a complex non-verbal, corporeal language, an integral part of the actor's complex being, a language that sometimes precedes the verbal, yet always supports it. The purpose of the book is twofold: to document Miriam Răducanu's method and to offer students and other theatre and performing arts professionals a resource that would enrich their professional development.
