Abstract

A Paradigm Shift in Photography
Today, new media has a great influence on society. We are witnessing a consumer paradigm shift. The media increasingly relies on visuality, images, and moving images. Consumers receive media content more and more audio-visually, and due to the dumping of physical images, we are also witnessing a kind of visual inflation. The media consumer often encounters more visual impulses than he can process. Unfortunately, we can see that the story puts professional presentation in the background, so more news appears superficially, with low-quality illustrations. Before the appearance of the new media, the information went through a kind of filtering, and the editing was carried out by specialists. With the advent of new media, the concept of filtering has been reevaluated, information is pouring onto consumers almost unfiltered. We are also witnessing a paradigm shift in photography and imaging. The paradigm of analog photography was defined by what can be done with film, and with digital photography, what can be done with digital technology. Almost everything that cannot be done with film can be done with digital photography, but is it necessary and do we want to do it? I am also trying to get an answer to this question. The photograph can no longer be perceived as an authentic document by itself, as it can be easily modified. The photograph can be considered a construction, its interpretation is largely subjective. What is captured in the image needs contextualization to provide the receiver with the clues to decipher its meaning.
