Snapshot of a Cross-section of Art Education
Following the changes of 1989, cultural, economic, political and social transformations took place in our region, which changed – and continue to change – the pedagogical methods and processes. Not only has the diversity of classroom communities (and communities in general) increased, but also the challenges faced by various – unavoidable – external influences on the participants of the educational process. To be able to assess the current state of this process, we need to re-examine some concepts and their relationship: how they have been nuanced cultural universalities, how the relationship between culture and the individual developed in the whirlwind of global changes and within it the (local) phenomenon of ethnocentrism, to evaluate the dimensions of multicultural education, the increasingly delicate level of prejudices, etc. In our opinion, this procedure is limited (the entire process could only be effectively evaluated by a multidisciplinary research group) to addressing a set of questions regarding the phenomena and problems generated by artistic education and, within it, the experiences accumulated at the University of Arts Târgu Mureș. It is clear that in this case we cannot touch all the issues that arise, rather we rely on the filtering of our own experiences of research and teaching and educational organization based on theoretical and methodological approaches. The novelty of the approach from the point of view of the theatreologist and teacher may be that all his searches and findings lead inevitably to the realm of theater science and performing arts
